Try to bug-out and all the Free-Loaders will be waiting for you.

If you live in a flood-prone area or any place subject to hurricanes, move now.

Did we not learn from Katrina and other natural disasters?

The next disaster will be man-made, and will be far worse than any Hurricane.

Sit tight, prepare, and be ready to defend your ground.

    Be well.

No. I live SE of Houston, and I did just fine through Ike. The issues with katrina were almost entirely manmade.

And you're a fool if you think that you'll never be faced with evacuation if you don't live in an area prone to floods and hurricanes. Chemical spills and fires are two situations that immediately come to mind - I'm sure there are more. While you should have long term stores emplaced at home, everyone should have a BOB if a quick evacuation becomes a necessity.

For flashlights I found that the disposable ones that use hearing aid batteries (Accadamy seems to sell them off at around a buck every few months) work very well for most of the tasks you will need a light for. The advantage? you can store about 30 of them easily. I have them attached to the sides of my packs, first aid kit, shelter, water carrier, attached to zippers on jackets, attached to shirt pockets and in pants pockets. These coupled with a good high intensity beam will see you through a dark night or two. Leave them in the original package till you need them.
I found the same thing, and I do the same thing.

Protip: You can order about three for a dollar instead of one for three dollars if you get them from a site like dealextreme.com

Hence my recommendation you relocate from high risk areas.

Katrina was in no way man-made, but the results thereafter were entirely man-made failures. No city should EVER be built below sea level. It is not possible to contain natural disasters, with imperfect human engineering.

What about all those levees and canals that failed to stem the vast flooding in the "heartland?"

It is not foolish to evaluate the relative risk of natural and potential man-made disasters to decide where you live.

I have no particular desire to live along the Gulf Coast, in Tornado Alley, near a Nuclear Reactor, Refinery, or in any other places that incur higher insurance costs for exceptional risks.

I do have a BOB should a meteor or asteroid strike my home.

Be careful of calling another a fool, my friend.

    Be well.

No I keep it all in 1800 sq ft fouse with attached garage... These items were for staying put at my home(bunkering down) and my BOB(which I doubt I'd ever flee anywhere unless I had to) is much smaller. I just don't have my BOB-list all typed in a nice list like I do for the stuff I keep on-hand at home. Most of this stuff fits in 1 large rubber maid tub that I keep stashed in my closet, so honestly if I bugged out in a vehicle I could easily take most of this.
