Companies pay (it looks like they do but nope) SS - NOT Fed income tax for employees.
Tax laws are written by the big boys (we don't get to play) to optimize taxes for THEM.

No, though I'm quite confident and self-congratulatory to be certain that it would be less than only 5.7 billion.

    :)

You get my point. The USA lets (in my dreams) one keep over 60% of our first 10 million.
Why, oh why, might anyone here object to said individual paying a bit more on their eleventh million of personal income?

I'll get lambasted and harangued for thus but....

Under the present graduated income tax law if you personally make $10 million dollars in one year you get to keep about $6 million.
If one makes $30 million in a year they get to bank around $18 million.

A hypothetical proposal has been made by the Dems (AOC) to raise taxes only on your $11th million and up, such that the individual making $30,000,000.00 would get to keep only $12 million (only!!!).
Your first $10,000,000.00 would be unaffected.

This would not apply to corporations.
It would not tax or discourage growth or reinvestment as has been alleged.

    Now in my fantasy......
Were I to personally make $30 million in one year I would say "This country has been good to me" and be pretty happy with my $12 million net after taxes!!!

Somewhere we need to tax more and/or spend less and cease ignoring the grisly deficit.

Painting that as "redistribution" is wrong. Our USA needs the money for roads and infrastructure and military and a border wall, eh??

    Where to start???

    Our country doesn’t need money.

The Federal Government is collecting more taxes than ever before.

    They waste billions.

Why shouldn’t we keep all of the money we earn through our own labor?

Why do politicians get to decide to take money we earn from us against our will?

What is it called when someone takes someone else’s money against their will?

That's BS and you know it. They worked for and made that much money. If they wish to voluntarily give it to the gov to be wasted go for it. What you are espousing is pure jealousy because you can't figure out how to do it. Learn how and your attitude might take an adjustment.

We have a progressive tax structure that has worked for quite a number of decades but is presently collecting less than is being spent.
    Fact.

The progressive tax structures if fluid and lives under the guidance of elected legislators and will continue to do so.
    Fact.

I don't like it but it works.
    Fact.

    Silly thread is going nowhere.
    Bye.

In a fully functional anarchy that would work.
Such a place has never existed in modern times.

It worked on Atlantis for a while.
Then it sunk under the weight of its debt.
    Common knowlege.

The 16th Amendment wasn’t ratified until 1913. We weren’t an anarchy before that.

There are plenty of other tax options.

I don't like it but it works.

    Does it?

The fact that the government is shutdown right now because Congress can't pass a budget and most Americans don't even notice tells me that it doesn't.

Somehow this country managed to survive for quite a while without a national income tax. We could again though the Federal government would have to quit lording over every aspect of people's lives.

Everyone should have some skin in the game. We're fast approaching the point where 50% of people pay no Federal tax.

    1. You should NEVER get back more than you paid in.
    2. Everyone should have to pay a minimum amount. Even if it's only $25. That bill is due on April 15th and can't be withheld.

As it stands right now my wife and I are in that group that doesn't pay any Federal tax. The standard deduction eliminates any tax we might owe. My wife and I paid taxes for many years. She's now retired and I'm "completely and totally disabled" according to the VA. It wouldn't bother me a bit to have to write a check in April.

When you've got people (illegal aliens) claiming 10-15 children and getting thousands of dollars back the system is broken.

I don't buy this "not paying your fair share" mumbojumbo. That's how percentages work. If the tax rate is say 15%, and EVERYONE pays that amount, then everyone is paying their fare share. The issue is getting EVERYONE to pay their fair share. I'm referring to all the people getting back more that they pay in by whatever method weather its claiming many kids or other ways.
At first I was for a flat tax but that got too complicated with investment and defining appropriate what 'income' is. A national sales tax would work very well, I think. Everyone, no matter who you are, consumes resources. Food, daily products, cars, houses, etc. Everyone will by default pay their fair share. Rich people will pay more dollars to buy luxury cars and poorer people sill pay less to buy economy cars. It's still a percentage and all pay. (even illegals)
    Oh, NO MORE REFUNDS!
    NO MORE CRAP SOCIAL PROGRAMS!
We should really roll back most all of FDR's programs from the 30's and 40's.
Trim down the gov and make them live within their means. I have to, why shouldn't the fed.

No, it's just not going where you and other Socialists want it to go.
One big problem with your tax solution is that if you keep raising taxes after so many millions, pretty soon there is a point where there is no point in making more money. So they don't. On purpose. Then that amount has to go down. So they make less. Until it gets low enough that they start letting employees go and producing less and less. Until they produce nothing and there is nothing to tax.

Think, Venezuela. Along with every other Country that has tried that throughout history.

You want facts? The only proven cure is less government spending and taxing.

Yup. Social programs need to go. There is absolutely nothing in the Constitution that permits the Federal Government to provide them anyway.

Oops , my mistake. The above is response to a post by HKshooter.
