I have been collecting W.W.II military items since I was a kid, started with the things my father brought back.
I met his wife/widow a number of years ago, when she passed away their son contacted me. He had no interest in the grouping sad to say. So, yes this came directly from the family.

I would hesitate donating it to any museum. I know a lot of militaria collectors, and have heard far too many horror stories of items given to a museum never to be put on display. There's also been accounts of donating items being sold off to fund operations.

If you do decide to go that route, I would recommend finding a small museum that will more likely put the items on display but there is never a guarantee that they won't be sold.

There's a guy that has a private museum of military goods out near Chat'nooga, I think, that accepts, and displays, items such as these. I'll look back through my links and favorites to see if I can find 'im again if you'd like to go that route.

Thanks, but I would rather see it go to a collector who would care for the group. When things are donated to museums, they do not have the space to display, and much goes into storage to languish and at times get damaged.

Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg would probably be interested. They have a lot of WW2 uniforms on display but a complete Naval Officers Kit would be unique

    You "heard". Any actual experience?

Firsthand accounts from several collectors, and I only donate to one museum in the UK (a base where I was formerly stationed) where I know the staff wouldn't do such things.

But since you questioned my comments, what firsthand experience do you have?

I completely understand. I was getting on YouTube to check out M.A.C. and a few others and clicked on the museum vid./link thing when I scrolled too far. Thought some of y'all might like to see it anyway so the link is below.

I wonder what kind of security he has for that museum? I also question the live explosives not being in a BATFE approved magazine.
