I upgraded not to long ago my custom built pc to a samsung evo (I think that is what the model was) 128 gig just for the OS and my boot time is about 15 seconds. But have to say my rig is a rather high end built system for gaming

    Asus crosshair v formula z
    Amd 8350
Paitriot viper 32 gigs Cant remember timings right now
Evga Geforce gtx 970 2 in sli

These are just the basics of my rig I could go in full detail of everything but don't feel like doing an inventory. With what I put into this computer I could of built a 5000 dollar rifle easy.

My boot time went from nearly two minutes (HDD) to about 15 seconds (SSD). The Samsung EVOs are pretty affordable and powerful.

This has me interested. If I should decide to upgrade to a SSD in my main laptop, how do you do the transfer of files, OS, etc in the easiest way? I should add I have changed computers many times over the years and generally just do a complete reload of data and programs. Have never tried a bit by bit copy.
    If you're on Win7:

Do a massive cleanup of your image
    Do a few defrag passes.
    Scan for malware, and viruses.

    GoTo:
    Start>AllPrograms>Maintinance,

    Backup and Restore.

Left side, on top, choose "Create System Image"

Plug in External USB HDD, Choose that to back up your image.

When finished, make a REPAIR disk, You'll need it to image the new drive.

Install new drive, Boot to repair disk, follow instructions.

    Done.

I'm buying two "Crucial" 500gb/SSD drives for my Toshiba tecra. Boots from a 750gb/7200/HDD in under thirty seconds. Wonder what it will be when I add the new SSD. :)

    Toshi Tecra r940:

    16gb/ram.
    3340 i5 Ivy bridge processor.
Already a very fast machine. Trying to make a little monster out of it. :p

I'm using an Msata in an Express Card Slot for my boot drive in my Lenovo lap top so my boot times are a little longer than a straight SSD drive but I got to keep both my 1TB HDD for storage and my DVD Burner.
