BTW my thermal scope sighting-in trick is to tie a little fish hook to a fired shotgun hull and just hang to from a paper target and pour in hot coffee or a cold libation depending on time of day! It stays visible for 15-20 minutes.

I have tried a lot, but the simplest, cheapest that works is just some aluminum foil tape.
