You missed the point. A bill of sale is just a piece of paper unless it is notarized.
It can still be used against you. That's the thing about bills of sale. They will never help you, but then can hurt you. They have hurt people. Gun control is evil, period. No exceptions.

So Mr Johnson, I see you have a BoS showing you sold this firearm to a known prohibited person.

Not to mention IRS and state sales tax fraud if you didn't claim the income. Could get really nasty.

And that piece of paper...... Yet it is still used to obtain convictions every day. ...
Still does not show he is a resident. He might as well of showed you his Texas Gun Talk Badge. Law Enforcement IMO is the worst source of knowing current firearms laws.

Damn! I gotta' have one of them. A TGTB, the ultimate ID. :roflfunny:

Our oldest boy sells a few. He says the biggest danger as in liability for the sellier is selling to a criminal or crazy person. He has a special guvment form he got from his pal at the gun shop where the buyer must show they aint got those kinda probloms and also give a copy of their ID to go along with. Dont sound foolproof but should beat nothing if selling to a stranger.

So, he's still just taking their word for it, but it shows him on paper being involved if there is an issue later on...

So he makes them fill out a 4473?

How does he know they aren't lying on it?

    Just a fancy BOS.

You mean to suggest someone might attempt to LIE on their "parking lot/roadside" 4473?!?!?!

I believe this was mentioned elsewhere, but pretty sure the greatest liability isn't selling to a crazy person (assuming a general level of discretion is applied) - it's the grey area of what constitutes dealing firearms without an FFL; I would think having buyers fill out a form of any kind (especially a 4473) would severely impact one's argument in that regard...

Better hope that not a single one of those sales turns a profit of any kind.

Not sure profit matters. In Texas, the laws do not require paperwork. That seems to be the bottom line and best discretion of the person selling to.

I know it's not like flipping houses for profit. I guess I can see it might not appear to be on the up and up.

This picture from that article is cringy. I think it's a link to the Gun Nation documentary from The Guardian.
