A buddy of mine bought one last week. After shooting the 6th round, he un-shouldered it and it came apart. Are you guys aware of this issue? I just bought one last week. He said Kel-Tec is aware, but has not issued a recall yet.

If this has already been posted, I apologize. Mods can delete.

    Gunz are icky.
There is a recall on them.
Go to Kel-Tec website. Enter the serial#.
It will say if the carbine is under the recall.
I had one and sent it back in. Took about 5 weeks to get it back.
What I heard was some barrels were out of spec.
Maybe your friends gun was in that bunch?

I own one just like this... and I too have identified that this is the possibly the weakest point in the rifle (followed by the castle nut near the stock tube). Thankfully, mine is still holding up ok and I try not to put too much "flex" pressure on the forend when I unfold it. I figured this one out while updating the hex screws that the plastic holding the rifle together is tough but brittle. I envision this failure may happen easier if one were to unfold/lock it down too hard, or while acting foolishly.

As stated, this area and the fact that the castle nut keeps coming loose are the two weakest points on this design. Shoots great and has a niche in my collection, but I realize it is more of a novelty than a serious self defense tool.

What moonpie said. I’ll check mine. I knew a recall was in effect over other parts but wow...that’s a hell of a failure. Glad he’s ok. Mine seems to be running fine after running various ammo while suppressed

    Additional information.

The recall @Moonpie referenced is for an entirely different issue. The photo shows the result of a bad batch of colored polymer.

There is not a recall. The polymer only went into recent multimag s2ks. No examples of bad black polymer failures have surfaced on the interweb yet.

So, if you are buying a multimag (non glock) s2k ... go for black till the bad units make their way through the channel.
