How you like that BDC reticle? I've looked through them & thought the hollow dots block most of the sight picture. Whats your opinion In real world usage compared to store looking?

I know you didn’t ask me, but it’s the internet so I’m going to tell you anyway...I dislike the BDC reticle as I find that the circles rarely match any “common” distances that I shoot at within 100 yards using standard velocity ammo. At a minimum, I’d go Primary Arms 4x14-44 FFP mildot reticle. Im about to swap the Mueller APT on my NRL22 rifle for a Vortex Viper PST, but I realize most wont spend that much on rimfire optics. Let your primary shooting discipline dictate your optic type, in my humble opinion.

I’m researching more affordable options for decent glass with “christmas tree” type reticle closer to the $500 mark for a buddy of mine...there are some Athlon Optics that have my eye and I believe Primary Arms might have a new reticle in the works that should hit the market soon(ish), I’ll try to remember to share what I find.

I didn't see a thread like this, so I figured I'd start one. What kind of scopes are you guys running? I'm looking for one right now for my old Mossberg, and I found a Bushnell Banner 3.5-10x 36mm for under $50. I'm really thinking about getting it. It's an old, cheap gun and I'm not too keen on paying $150-$200 for a scope just to plink around with. I plan on getting a Ruger Precision Rifle eventually, so I'll probably get a really nice scope for it.

Why not buy the "really" nice one now and not have a clunker floating around. Scopes can be moved from gun to gun. Besides you can be learning how the nice scope works.

Got a question. Is factory match .22 ammo consistent enough to shoot dope? Thought it'd be a fun way to shoot. If, I was to spend the money on a ffp locking turret scope.
    It depends on your barrel.

Out of a production barrel , not really worth it to buy match ammo.

Out of a match barrel, well, yes. The second picture is the first picture’s 5 shot group covered with a .22 shell.

All pics are 5 shot groups @50 yards

I hated the rimfire scope on my 22, too small. So I put a fairly cheap deer rifle sized scope on it, can't recall the name, but it was cheap.

You can get Nikon scopes (which I love) for around $100, and Burris and Bushnell for under $100 that work on 22s.

I am of the opinion that one should always perform thorough ammo testing in order to identify what the rifle likes, and then feed it that no matter the writing in the box. My old dirty Savage FVSR will shoot ragged one hole groups with SK Standard+, but I find CCI SV to perform well for the price. This group was CCI SV (in 10MPH winds) at 50 yards. Dope was easy to calculate and worked well enough for my first NRL22 match that I couldn’t blame the dope for my errors. I dialed a few stages and held on others, good times!

    Cause I'm broke as F...?

lol, also mainly because I don't like swapping out scopes all the time. I'm not looking for a clunker, just a decent inexpensive scope for an old rifle. Putting a really nice scope on it really isn't going to do anything for it that a cheap one wouldn't, and once I do get the Ruger, the nice scope is going to stay on it permanently, leaving the old rifle without a scope again.

I'll be watching this thread. I bought a Beretta ARX 160 .22LR around Christmas time, and I'm wanting an inexpensive scope for it too. I was thinking about the Simmons .22Mag 4x32 scope you can buy at Wally World for $30, but something in my just can't pull the trigger on a $30 scope.
I have about 5 of the .22 Mag scopes on my rimfire Rifles. They were about $50.00. They also have an adjustable AO.

I wanna know about this rifle, as I’ve got an ARX100 that I love

I've only put about 500 rounds through my ARX160, but it has fed anything I've put in it. And it's a lot of fun to shoot. I don't think it feels cheap. In fact, it's got a little more weight to it than I'd like. And, yes, it's made by Umarex, but Beretta's specs. Just because it's made by Umarex doesn't automatically make it a failure.

The peep sights on it actually work pretty well, but my old eyes just need some assistance. Thus, my search for a scope for it.

The reason I bought it rather than a 10-22 or something else is that it is completely ambidextrous and I'm left handed. I'm tired of using guns made for right-handed people. PSA had them on sale at $279 and I just couldn't resist.

That comment does not describe me at all.
I'm forever swapping out scopes just for the joy of sighting them in.

I do discourage buying very cheap scopes, as good ones will outlast us all and there is a "get what you pay for" effect for sure.

I have a boring and mundane answer to this thread.
    Used 2-7 or 3-9 power Luepold Vari-X.
    I have a couple. One on a 22lr and another on a 22 mag.

    Not expensive. Warranty for life.
Clear glass and the 2-7 is ideal for .22 distances.

Ruger American .22LR with Primary Arms 4-14x44 FFP MIL/MIL mounted on ADL 20 MOA.
