I ran a few magazines through a 455 Precision Trainer on Sunday, no creep or grit with a clean break (felt heavy compared to my 2lb setup I’m accustomed to). A Yo Dave kit will drop it down to between 1-3lbs.

I’ll probably pull the action this weekend and clean it well, possibly polish, and lube it correctly. The 455 trigger is adjustable from the factory so I’ll try their first.

In perspective, there’s 105 +\- 5 trigger squeezes on it, so it’s just beginning the break in.

If the my work doesn’t help it out, I’ll probably drop in the 3.0 lb Timmey kit.

Tuesday night at the range. Did some load testing with 3 versions of ELEY. One thing I noticed right away is the consistency from shot to shot was greatly improved. I instantly know when my mechanics went south because the flyer would show up right away. All three loads will perform better than I can, as each of my groups tonight had one flyer, and that was me, not the gun.

The closer target on the right was a guy next to me with an iron sight M4 clone in 300BLK with a brake. Lots of blast headed my way all night. Should’ve moved over to the furthest bay, but this range is a little prickish about that.

Here’s how they performed. The bottom right target was 5 x 5 shot groups at the end with the last of the ELEY action I had with me. There’s about nine discernible breaks for 25 shots. It could’ve been better, but I was spent by then and the jerk hole next to me decided it was time to ramp up to double taps.

Best group came in at .705. Just a hair outside my criteria. Take out the one flyer and it’s 4 shots edge to edge inside a dime.

    It's a Volquartsen semi-auto 17HMR.
    SF-1 I think.
    It's maiden shooting voyage.

It was terribly windy and we were numb-fingered shaking 44 degrees.

Under those conditions (with an entry level 4-12x $175 optic) and the Winchester 20 grain ammo we were suitably impressed with 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yards.

The CCI ammo did better, the 15.5 grain stuff stuck to 1" groups. Hurray.

THEN, the CCI 17 grain ammo consistently shot 1/2 to 3/4 MOA.

    WOW.
I'm thinking that with a calm day, warm unhurried hands and the 5-25 Vortex scope he has at home gathering dust this thing just might be a 1/4 MOA rifle!

    Covet. Covet. Covet.
Just what I was need..... a $3,000 rimfire.
    Damn, I want one.

    Oh. Addendum.
That Volquartsen muzzle blast intensifier is just pointless.
It makes the 17HMR painfully louder and the report more concussive to all observers.
It's 24 rear-directed ports are hardly needed to tame the "punishing" 17HMR recoil.
Just removing the unneeded muzzle brake made shooting more pleasant.

I took the Sparrow suppressor off my threaded Ruger 77/22 that I'd brought.
We all took off our hearing protection and shot the 17HMR.
    Way nicer.
Did not change the point of impact one tiny bit.

Sometimes you just have to annoy the Fudds sitting next to you that call a cease fire to check their targets every 3 rounds.

Not surprising on the ammo. I haven’t seen a 17HMR yet that liked the 20gr stuff.

Been working on little things since I’ve transitioned to the bag/bipod. Seems like a lot of it came together tonight.

Thought I’d take the aim small/miss small to the extreme. 1” dots at 50yds. Really makes you focus on the fundamentals.
