Own a gun? Time to buy violence liability insurance, California Democrats say | Fox News

So the gun grabbing asshats in the Peoples' Socialist Яepublik of Kalifornia are trying to add even MORE bullshit to the onerousness of owning a gun there.

Ting equated the idea to requiring vehicle owners to buy auto insurance. Gomez said it would encourage gun owners to take firearms safety classes and keep their guns locked up to get lower insurance rates.

But Sam Paredes, executive director of Gun Owners of California shot Ting's bullshit in the ass:

Moreover, he questioned whether it is constitutional to require someone to buy insurance to exercise a constitutional right.

It shouldn't have to be a bill. Many gun owners, particularly CHLers have made this consideration already in preparation for carry. Just like you research type of gun, caliber, holsters, clothing, training, the mental/moral responsibility, the legal even financial preparation should be done as well.

I don't think it should be a bill. I think people should get to that conclusion on their own. An easy way, a personal rider on your insurance that covers "everything else".

True. There are several insurance companies aligned with the NRA and other gun rights groups that DO have "gun liability" insurance. But, as you say, it's completely voluntary. A friend and former coworker has that insurance from the NRA. The attempt to make it a law could be construed as a violation of the 24th Amendment and that is where the legal action against the Violence Liability Insurance proposal will come. I'm not against any insurance of this kind, I'm against the state trying to make it a necessity. Not to mention using the vehicle insurance analogy is 100% bullshit anyway because driving is a privilege and gun ownership is a right.

Mandatory liability insurance for firearms then would put the power into the hands of the insurance company or agency. If you can't get the liability insurance, then you can't own? This maddness needs to stop.

No. Obama will force you to get insurance or pay a small fine in taxes to the government. :)

Ahhh, I forgot about that point. Now that you say this I vaguely remember this conversation coming up years ago. Your reply is right on target.

Collusion with insurance companies got us into our health care mess. Now, we have health care coverage that is cheaper but costs more. Figure that one out.

I used to think my insurance company was my friend looking out for me in time of need. You can kiss that crap goodby!

What will happen is they will pass they law, then pressure insurance companies to not write policies for it or make it cost prohibitive to buy. First it will be ok but then next they will change the law so if you are caught with out it your guns will be confiscated.

Ah, yes...I get it...a tax/fee to exercise a God-given right...how about we pay a fee/tax to go to church and then have to get insurance in case someone gets stabbed with a crucifix?
