Not really. If you don't care about due process the way we try to (or pay lip service to) in the USA, you can just issue orders like this. It's not actually a law; it's just an order changing the definition of terms in the law that was passed back in 1983.

If you read the cited section of that law, it's absolutely clear that the NZ government has the power to declare any rifle or shotgun to be a military style assault rifle subject to all the restrictions that entails.

I meant, seems convenient that some guy shoots up a mosque and mere days later the overlords take action to enslave the population. Maybe they just got lucky.

    Everything is not a conspiracy.
Especially when the new "legislation" is just an executive order, specifically authorized by their main gun law, that's literally just one short paragraph with a couple of extra pro-forma sentences. Any anti-gun person in the government could have written that up in 5 minutes.

Yep here all it took was the President saying ban bumpstocks

If you don't think that will be used in the future to ban 30 rd mags, shockwaves, arm braces, improved triggers, ect ect ect you are fooling yourself.

Except that there a vote by house and senate weren’t required.

    We mustn't ever get complacent.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-capacity_magazine_ban

Magazines have been banned here before.
    1994.
    Public opinion is forever shifting.
I have family and friends who hunt and own firearms who see no point my owning 20 or 30 round mags.
Be mindful that these forums represent one end of a spectrum.

RKBA is, most certainly, already subject to restrictions.
More could come in very short order.

    1994-2004. RIP.

big truth... it’s the divide and conquer approach gun banners have expertly employed in other states.
