I’d seen this in there before up on a shelf, assumed it was a 12 or 20. Grabbed it down and thought maybe 410 until I noticed it had rifling. Then took a look at the markings and it’s a 32 Special. Looking around online some folks mention using this as a tranquilizer gun too, they utilize a 22 blank and adapter.

I am completely unfamiliar with this cartridge. Is 32 Special the same as 32 Winchester Special?

The 32 Winchester Special was introduced in 1902. It's a rimmed case cartridge only used in lever action and single shot rifles. (Remington came out with a rimless version for bolt and semi-auto rifles.) According to Winchester's 1916 catalog, the 32 Special was intended to fill a gap between the .30-30 and the "30 Army" (.30-06). It's has about 10% more energy than a similar .30-30. This according to Cartridges of the World. Winchester, Hornady, Remington, and Federal still manufacture this round.

    Gunz are icky.
Lots of surface rust in the chamber. I can see some shiny in the rifling. Cannot see the bottleneck well with my flashlight.

    Clean the bore thoroughly.
Buy some cerrosafe from Brownell’s. It’s a metal that melts at a very low temp.
Pack some cloth or wadding in the bore ahead of the chamber. Piur in some molten cerrosafe. Allow it to cool. Tap the casting out with a cleaning rod. Mic the casting to figure out what it is.
No need for fancy equipment. A metal cup and propane torch will work just fine.

Anyone know if there is a difference in recovers between their different gauges and calibers?

Online I found lots of fun calibers I don’t own that I’d like; 17 HMR, 410, 22-250, 45,70. I don’t own any of those and would like to.

Apparently there is SB1 and SB2 receivers, one is heat treated for center fire cartridges and the other is for shotguns. I assume this is latter, so now I need a 410 barrel or 17 HMR. Really want the 17 HMR.

Just be ready for a horrid trigger pull.

Never thought about that. I have some of the shotgun variants and I suppose I don’t think about triggers as much on those. Might not do real well trying to squeak on some accuracy with that cartridge. Still could be fun if I find a barrel cheap enough.
