I need a new trigger for my Ruger AR-556. The stock trigger is heavy and gritty.

I'm thinking about getting a LaRue MBT-2S trigger for it. I understand that the Ruger is a lower end, basic AR, so I'm not interested in spending $200 or more on a trigger. But the LaRue gets good reviews and I think it might be a good upgrade for me. And, if I buy or build something nicer, I can always move the LaRue to the new gun.

Any thoughts on the LaRue or perhaps another recommendation?

ALG ACT or QMS are good choices too. Depends what you're looking for. The MBT is a two stage trigger. The ALG triggers are single stage, good quality milspec triggers.

The Larue is a great trigger. I really like the flat face option.

Keep in mind they take a month to ship though.

If I get the LaRue, I'll have to decide between the standard one and the flat face one. Not sure which I'd prefer.

On the shipping, I'm in no hurry. I have intended to do this for a long time and have put it off for one reason or another. So another month or so won't matter to me.

I think I want a two-stage trigger. I'm not a competitive shooter. My AR is only for plinking and home defense.

But I've gotta admit that I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to this sort of stuff. And I'm certainly not a shade tree gunsmith. (The AR-556 is my first and only AR, and most of my other guns are stock.) I like the idea of a self-contained drop-in trigger, so that Rise trigger looks good for that. Are there self-contained drop-in two-stage triggers?

I'm on the east side of the DFW area near Rockwall.
I'm an hour and 40 minutes east of you in Longview but I travel to the DFW area pretty often. I don't know if your in a hurry for it but I'd let you have this trigger for $80. Of course I can ship it as well if you're interested. It comes as pictured. New never installed. Has been dry fired in the housing. I bought 2 of them a few years back and only used one. The one in my Grendel I didn't like, it had a "spot" in it that bothered me. I contacted Ruger and no questions they sent me a new hammer that was smooth. I've been happy with it.
