Hard to believe that country controlled such a large part of the world once. What a bunch of pussies

Decades of open door immigration, socialist tax system, gradual disarming of the population, and big brother surveillance. IMO the UK provides a clear picture of the future of the US.

I remember that, and my question is, if it's 40 years old, how can it be .40? I wonder if it wasn't 40mm? .40 s&w is barely a 20 year old cartridge, iirc

I know, and 1990 was just five years ago ;)

The .40 S&W cartridge debuted January 17, 1990, along with the new Smith & Wesson Model 4006 pistol, although it was several months before the pistols were available for purchase. Austrian manufacturer Glock Ges.m.b.H. beat Smith & Wesson to the dealer shelves in 1990, with pistols chambered in .40 S&W (the Glock 22 and Glock 23) which were announced a week before the 4006.

    I bought my G23 in 1991 I believe.
    Almost 30 years.

DOH!! Basic math!! Skinny old fart, I am... Ok, so it's 30 years old... but if the crate 3 years ago was 40 years old (assuming they weren't infected with my math malfunctions) then it still couldn't be .40, right?

I googled and googled, but I'm old and couldn't find any pics of them carrying anything out, and now I'm even more curious if maybe that wasn't some 40 mike mike...

Could've been almost anything - even someone typo'ing the age because they had just typed .40 for the caliber, they could've misunderstood how long the box was there, someone could've made an offhand remark of "man, that box was in rough shape - looked like it had been there forty years!"...I don't think it was 40mm, though. Apparently according the the story they had called the cops out for a box of shotgun shells they found the week earlier. That makes me think this was also something really common and not at all unusual.

    General Zod,
It depends on WHICH 40mm ammo that it was. = The Brits (or at least used to) have 40mm HE/Incendiary ammo for engaging "light-armored" vehicles & fixed/fortified field installations.
That stuff was potentially hazardous even when it was new.

    yours, satx

Nah, my doubts are about the whole 40mm assumption. I have no doubt the "40 year old .40 caliber" ammo was some typical cluelessness on the part of the reporter, probably over a box and a half of .45ACP or something. Kind of like a week or so ago, when the USS Abraham Lincoln was deployed to the Persian Gulf along with a squadron of B-52's, and at least one news outlet reported that the Lincoln could launch F/A-18 fighters and B-52 bombers.
