Yes, Rockford Files was excellent. I used to watch it every chance I got.
    Good article, too.
Have you seen "The Ultimate Gift"? It has to be one of the last movies he did, and he was not even the central character. But a good movie, even if the production was a little...hmmm......basic. Loved it.

I am fortunate enough to say that my father was one of Jim's drivers on his American International Racing team. Jim was good enough to be his own driver, but his contracts with producers and for films prohibited him from driving, but not from racing. He loved the sport and was totally dedicated to it. His team's high point was in the 1969 24 hours of Daytona when his team in a Lola T70 MkIII finished second to a Penske entry of another Lola MkIII. Ed Leslie and Lothar Motschenbacher drove the No. 8 car, and believed they could have won the race, but for a mechanic installing two of the gears in the transmission backwards. They ran the entire race with only 3 of the 5 gears working, and still ended up 2nd after 24 hours.

I kind of liked the one with Joan Hackett up the tree.
Or when he stuck his finger in the barrel.

Walter Brennan commenting on Garners finger stuck in the barrel. "If'n I'd pulled the trigger it coulda blown up in my face." Garner says "It wouldn't done my finger a hell of a lot of good either." Later Brennan's son says "He stuck his finger in your what?"
To me James Garner is second to only the still kicking Kirk Douglas as the ultimate mans man.
I lived in LA during the early episodes of Rockford. The entire cast was great.

"Support your local gunfighter" wasn't bad either. But I'll agree on the Sheriff movie.
