This could've been a rant but it's just a gear report. These things look like ammo cans. But they're Chinese plastic - just what I expected & I have a bunch of them. They seal nicely for long term storage of lightweight stuff. They're cheap AND inexpensive. I put 360 rounds of 62grain 5.56 (18 boxes of 20 -> about 3/4- 7/8 full) in one and when I lifted it, the carry handle snapped right off. So, their carry capacity is something less than 10.5 pounds. I'm gonna (in the future) limit net weight to 7 pounds - about 1/2 full of ammo.

Yup. Been there done that mistake. Metal cans all the way now. The Blackhawk ammo cans aren’t as good as the old surplus cans but they work just fine.

I have a few Plano and MTN plastic cans. Both have served me well for a few years now. That said I prefer steel if the price is right.

I'm going to use the previously-broken-handled box for day trips to the range (vs longtime storage). I restored it to its prior prefection with a 3/16" drill bit & a piece of paracord. Since my restoration makes it virtually impossible to tell the repaired box (which is now not water resistant) from an original box, I put a label (A20) on the unrestored box. The restored box is on the viewers right. :green:

23A36327-90AE-45F3-8D06-CD2DED15F9E9.jpeg I recently bought a bunch of the large MTM storage boxes. I’m up to a dozen at this point. I like that I can stack them and move them on a hand dolly. Time will tell if they hold up, but I’ve been using the Cabelas dry storage boxes for years and like them a lot.

Not gonna argue that metal is better in most aspects, but I prefer the plastic boxes like I prefer my plastic pistols! LOL!

I use the plastic ones for empty case storage. As I finish cleaning up my pin tumbled cases they go into the $2.99 harbor freight specials.

Metal cans are for loaded ammo!
