Got here late. Sorry!
My wife carries a S&W Model 39 9mm that she like a lot. She handles it well and shoots accurately. The weapon is reliable and doesn't cause problems. We bought it many years ago used from a police officer at a gun show. My wife is almost 6' tall and has hands big enough to handle a GI 1911 easily (which she also shoots well).
My daughter carries a Sig M239 .40S&W as her off-duty weapon (she's a FTW Police Officer). My daughter likes the caliber and shoots the Sig very well. Her main complaint about it is the weight. She is now looking at a S&W M&P .40 compact for her off-duty weapon. All the research looks very good for it.
I offer these observations just for your information. As everyone has said, what works for you will be a personal choice and must be YOUR choice. Good luck!
BTW,
"Shooting someone with a pink gun is like adding salt in the wound. Not only did you get shot, but you got shot with a pink gun."
Best laugh I had all day!!!!
Make that a Sig P239 not M239.
