I tend to think a jobsite box is built sturdier than a $99 stack-on, and it can also be lagged to the wall. I think it might have more volume as well, but I could be wrong about that.

Plus going vertical should allow for an easy closet hide.

Hell....a guy could have it lagged so it’s raised off the floor. So when the closet is full of clothes it’s harder to spot. This depends on the closet obviously.

I'm going to be moving out of the nest soon (3-6 months?) and will no longer have access to the parental unit's safe. I've got my AR, my .22 rifle, my LCP II and my 92FS.

I don't have a lot of capital for a safe.

Supposing you're not allowed to bolt things to the wall, what do I do?

Circling back to the OP, a jobsite box is secure, affordable and discreet enough, IMO.

If your parents will let you to take the time necessary to find a place that isn't a large, apartment complex - you can avoid living in a human beehive comprised of some dicey characters.

Upscale apartments aren't cheaper (on average) than a stand alone dwelling.

I lived for a short time in one of these beehives. Horrible experience.

I neglected to mention a good rental real estate person can be a massive help in finding an affordable/available place.
