Well IMO, the Greatest Generation created the Boomers because they saw that having kids in litters instead of pairs would create a good solid base to keep SS running for their benefit. Then while they were still in charge, they robbed SS.

    Surely that is sarcasm...

So around 75-80 million people are the "few". Those are the baby boomers, those retiring or close to retirement and not even inclusive of those already retired, or born before the end of WWII. Now I don't have the numbers that of those who could survive without social security, but I'm sure that those that could not survive far outnumber those that could.

You can't just cut off an 84 year old social program that people were forced to comply with over night without destroying the nation as you know it.

I'm amazed at how complacent congress and the American people have become about what was once described as an unsustainable debt that would cause our nation to eventually fail.

I don't even pretend to understand world macroeconomics.

I saw this analogy six or years ago when Obama has taking the budget heat from the GOP.

Some stats about the US government:

    • U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
    • Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
    • New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
    • National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
    • Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000
Now, remove 8 zeroes and pretend it’s a household budget:

    • Annual family income: $21,700
    • Money the family spent: $38,200
    • New debt on the credit card: $16,500
    • Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
    • Total budget cuts: $38

Interesting way to look at it

IMHO all instances of money in any government paperwork must be represented in actual numbers, and not abbreviated in thousands, millions, billions, or trillions. All zeros must be shown!
    $1 T
    Must be shown as
    $1000000000000
    In ALL federal documentation.

    What say you?

For many a billion is hard enough to comprehend let alone a trillion.

Reminds me of the old story.

George W. Bush was awakened by a White House aid at 2AM.
"Sir, sir. We need you in the situation room. Three Brazilian soldiers were killed by a terrorist's bomb.
After rubbing the sleep out of his eyes GWB asked the aid "Son, how many zeroes in a brazillion?".

    :(

Concerning because with the rising debt that no elected official seems to be concerned with combined with the rhetoric coming from the left lately will eventually result in asset seizure of land, homes, cash and various private property by the feds to satisfy the debt for the "greater good" of the country.
One of the first things that might happen is that when you get old they will grab the home you have paid for and paid taxes on for years. They will give it to a younger family and warehouse your elderly self in an institution with minimal medical care since you are no longer contributing to society but are now a burden. If things keep going towards socialism.

Was FORCED to pay between 7.5% and 15%+ SET, for combined SS and Medicare, for 45 years.

Investing that amount would have far exceeded my expected return from SS had I been allowed to, and in the same manner I routinely invested and saved for retirement during that period.

Don't go blaming me for stealing from the current generation ... and especially when I'm still taxed on 85% of that hard earned SS income.

Here is a flyer from Galveston County about three counties who opted out of Social Security. There are going to be bad and good times when investing in the stock market. This caught my attention. For vested employees, the County will match your account at 200% at the Time of retirement. Don't blame us old folks. I was forced to pay into it and so was the employer. If I and a bunch of folks I knew had been able to get together and form our own plan I would be drawing far more than Social Security pays. Plus I will be forced to go on Medicare also. Of course, I could refuse and lose all my health care and then when I decided to return pay heinous penalties for being stupid. Aint my fault the stupid politicians borrowed from the Social Security Kitty and did not repay the money. If they hadn't touched it and invested it there would be plenty to go round.
