On passenger EV’s the batteries are generally very well shielded but once fire gets inside the actual battery compartment there is no putting it out. Just keep cooling it and protecting the exposures. We have 26 miles of I10 that we cover and traffic has grown a huge amount. We haven’t had an EV fire here yet but it’s bound to happen sooner or later.

Five seconds from start to inferno.

How many deaths would occur if loaded with passengers?

There have been EV fires in the US.

You all might be surprised how many vehicles fires we respond to. Three of the larger wildland fires we have worked this summer were started by vehicle fires. Semis and their loads seem to catch on fire disturbingly often. Nothing quite so weird as tearing a burning trailer apart on the I10 shoulder while the driver sits in the cab a few hundred yards up the road eating pizza.
