Why did they go after him unarmed in the end?

"Miraculously only three people were injured in the incident on Tuesday night.Police said a total of 10 shots were fired and the shooter fled after he ran out of bullets.None of the injured suffered life-threatening injuries."

Seems to me like a great example of what should be done in an active shooter situation. Don't just sit there and wait to be shot. Move around and offer as much resistance as you can. I'd give the boys in the restaurant an A for their actions. Much better than the shootings we usually hear about or see on the news.
