Wow. Almost $31,000 a year for the rest of his life( he is 28) and the city will pay for any legal fees and settlements in his up coming civil trial.

Not a bad gig for shooting an unarmed guy who was doing every thing he could to follow your less than clear instructions.

    OK, this isn't right.

But did anything ever happen to the officer who was issuing the verbal orders during that contact? The officer who repeatedly, unnecessarily, and incompetently escalated the encounter until he essentially hypnotized Brailsford into firing the fatal shots?

I've always been of the opinion that that officer was the one who should have been charged with murder. Brailsford should have been testifying against him in exchange for a plea deal on a lesser charge.

The SGT Incharge of the scene was fired I think. Complete failure of leadership to let it escalate to the level of fear and tension where the worst could happen. Complete against all training to slow things down and control the scene in a situation where you have them contained even in the possible "active shooter" incident the call started with because q gun was reportedly seen sticking out their window.

I personally think the sgt could have been charged too but that's me.

I read somewhere else that Brailsford's father was on the board that voted to give him this pension. Supposedly the dad was a long time retired police officer, so we can add nepotism to this mess. Proof positive that in Mesa, AZ the thin blue line takes care of its own.
