One of my favorite things about the AR platform is the ability to customize it and make it “your own.”

I thought a Texas shaped bolt catch would be cool.

Below is a rough concept design. What are your thoughts on it?

Do you know anybody that could make that?

(I understand that the sharp edges creates some tactical efficiency issues because of snagging but I’m not concerned about that.)

I don’t think it would fit. The BAD levers that I’ve seen are made to fit over a standard size paddle on the bolt catch. Plus, it would cover up the Texas. (Unless, I’m thinking of something different than you’re referring to?)

If you’re clean-sheeting the design, I would think an offset and channel or other workaround could be included.

But I guess an ambi mag release option could be acceptable, too.

As long as it’s compatible with the BAD, I’d buy one.
It could be slightly redesigned with a bad lever as part of it or to take a separate lever.
It would require a longer pin though but that should not be a problem.

    Middle of no where
From a consumers perspective If they were machined... I'd see maybe paying $30-$40 retail. If they were cast $15-$20 retail. So depending on how much they cost to make... 500-1000 qty bulk production I was thinking ...(also depends on the company's min max production requirements) if you can keep your cost to 1/2 of what the consumer is willing to pay, it may be worth your investment.

    Just my .02

I’ve been able to find two companies so far that said they can make custom bolt catches.

AmTech International and Barnes Precision Machine.

They both said I would need to provide CAD files.

However, AmTech did give a little more information about initial costs.

$6000-8000 paid up front to create the mold. Then a minimum of 2000 units need to be purchased. Price per each to be determined after viewing design.

Being optimistic, and assuming $10 each, it could be a $28,000 investment.

Would have to sell them all at $14 each just to break even. (Assuming no other costs.)

It is this for which go fund me and/or Kickstarter was intended for.
