Well, trusting again this forum has more knowledge combined than any single millennial thinks it has..... :D

I "retired" an alarm clock with a 1/2 pound of Tannerite - maybe "obliterated" is a better word. But it's 500 MB of data and nearly 2 minutes of film. I'd like to cut it down, plus splice in some other shots to make it a bit less boring...

Do any of you use a QuickTime editor or know of a good one that doesn't cost $$$ per month? Thanks!!

I used to use QuickTime Pro for that purpose, which lets you select, copy, cut and paste segments of video clips as you please.

Depends on the Quicktime codec... If it's H.264 then you can just rename the extension from .mov to .mp4 and just open it in whatever. If it's one of the proprietary codecs then you'll have to have Quicktime or Quicktime Alternative installed on your machine.

Hitfilm Express is a good free NLE: https://hitfilm.com/express/westworld-to-yuma
It'll ask that you "share" on some social media about it to register, but you don't actually have to. Just click the link, close the popup, then register.

Chose MovAvi - $45 lifetime license, none of tis $25-$50 MONTHLY fee crap. Seems to work, does what I need to do. Upload to Youtube didn't work, so I pulled it in with Youtube - got this as a result:

Tried it, wouldn't install - apparently one file needed to be overwritten and the access was denied. Didn't pursue it, yet.
Ah, yeah that does sound familiar... forgot what I did to fix that. IIRC there was some update that broke that. It sucks that Microsoft has not just discontinued support for Win7 and some of it's best tools, but they are actively making it hard for users to continue operating it as well.

    Any recommendations for Linux? :)
Never used it, but hear good things about Flowblade. Lightworks is also on Linux.

One of these days when it becomes more frustrating to keep Win7 going than teaching the wife how to use a whole new OS I'll switch to Linux.
