Years ago I bought some 'blank' (grey) ammo and some training (blue) ammo somewhere on the internet like J&G, AIM SURPLUS or CLASSIC FIREARMS?

I have an HK91 my wife bought me in 1983 that I rarely shoot. This bolt is reported to cycle the action of the HK with the training ammo.

I just ordered another 1,000 round case and the bolt as part of a kit offered by Dan's Sporting Goods. Not heard back when it will ship.

I usually just shoot the training ammo in a few old surplus Mausers that were converted to 7.62 NATO (imported years ago from places like SAMCO).

They cycle fine the bolt action Mausers.

Has anyone tried one of these bolts in HK91 or a clone??

The training ammo does kick a little in my Mausers. The plastic bullet is supposed to leave the barrel at over 4000 FPS. They are not quiet.

I have not tried them in my HK because I knew they wouldn't cycle so I just used a bolt gun.

When I get the bolt for the HK I'll report back.

Yes, that UB bolt and ammo will shoot and cycle fine in your HK91. I've got several thousand rounds of the stuff and it's fun to shoot.

I got the bolt yesterday. I am still looking for the open boxes of blue training ammo I got years ago.

I'll just leave the new case of training ammo unopened for now.

Need to find time to try it out.

I have a whole bunch of that stuff.

    Coupa' things

The bolt is a straight blow-back.
It has a rebated (smaller) bolt face to make firing a normal 7.62x51 impossible.

The firing pin is free floating without a spring like an AR15.
AR15 rounds, after chambering, have a little dent in the primer.
A G3 bolt has a very stout firing pin spring.
A couple of times the fast moving bolt would chamber a round and slam fire 2-3 rounds extremely fast. The thought that a whole magazine could run away uncontrollably is frightening.
A very bad and very illegal occurrence.
I found an odd spring in a drawer that fortuitously fit the firing pin and put a stop to that terrible mal-occurance.

The rounds are loud but different than a normal rifle round.
Sort of like a loud sharp .410 magnum sound with a shrill sonic crack.

I have a private range and don't mind that brass is scattered everywhere.
Those bright baby blue plastic casings are really unsightly so I pick them up.

    Happy shooting.
