The Iranians are trying their best to get someone to attack them.
For...? Sympathy? To fight back? To pull us into a war so others could attack? I just don’t see their long game. Short game stupidly, yes. But there has to be at least one person there that knows it’s a bad idea.

    Gunz are icky.
The leaders of Iran have ruined the country with their greed and incompetence.
They need an external enemy to misdirect the peoples anger.
    We should sit back. Wait.
They will do even crazier acts trying to get someone, anyone to attack them. The worst thing we could do is attack them.

Maybe it is a plot like The Mouse That Roared?
You get into a war with the U.S. and then LOSE to get aid in rebuilding your country.

We rebuilt Europe after WWII so why not the middle east??

A declaration of war would be nothing but good for them. Russia and other countries would pour billions into them. Not to mention the arms they would give even if they stsyed out of the fight. Plus, even a lot of the people that are now disinfranchised with their government would fight as well. If for no other reason than it is their country. Forget politics and religion. Many Russians in WWII did not fight for Stalin but to protect Russia. Plus the billions the US would give them after would be seen as a can't lose proposition.

When I was in the Navy & when we would go through the Straits of Hormuz, we had guys on deck that were on Stinger watch. We had orders to destroy anything that got too close.

I find it more interesting that we have apparently deployed land based drone jammers before we thought to put them on ships too?

Well, they fought for Russia and because not fighting meant getting shot or sent to the Gulags.
