Dan, we generally meet at Banda's around 6:15 to eat and then meeting at 7.

Field Day will be 22 June. Generally food available, most bring something. Since I am cooking challenged I just make a contribution!

Don't have anything else on the calendar that day yet, so hopefully I can make it! Guess I should ask where it is and what time it starts, too ;)

    Sounds good

I got my license a couple months ago. I don't talk often, but it's fun. I've been fascinated by radio communications since I was a kid.

For those East of the Metromess Cedar Creek Amateur Radio Club will hold it's annual field day at the Gun Barrel City main firehouse. Since we operate at our EOC no antennas need to be set up. Operation kicks off at 1PM and sometime that afternoon our chef starts cooking burgers. Lots of fun socializing and operating. It's open to all whether you want to learn more about ham radio, operate a bit (license not necessary), or learn something. Last year they built 2m beam antennas from tape measures and used them to contact the flyover satellites on a pass using walkie talkies. It will be run for 24 hrs so if you can't sleep at 2AM come on down. If anyone needs more info contact myself or go to the club website at K5CCL.org .

    Talk-in on 146.90 down .6 PL 136.5 or 444.05 up 5 136.5.

Dan, at the club presidents house, directly across 79 from the Ford dealer, you will see the antennas, tower. Generally we start arriving around 10 or so.

I got a set of handhelds from Cobra, normally I try to avoid them but they got great ratings and are submersible to 25 feet and have a nice radius. I tried using them about 5 miles from the house and was able to communicate with my wife. I never got my HAM radio license back in April due to unforeseen other life issues so what I have will have to work for now until I can get certified for the licensed bands.

I know this is an old thread but thought I would chime in. Amateur Extra here. New to to TX. Would love to be active on HF again but my antenna situation is far less than ideal, being that I am living in an apartment (have an MFJ 1622, seems to work ok on receive). Have some of my gear set up temporarily but will likely have to get on some land before I can get serious again.

The current bench, as messy and disorganized as it it (work in progress).

KG5GYL here. Lately my old Kenwood TS-520SE is not up and running due to some wierd issue, keeps blowing fuse and the output is down. Probably need new tubes or something. My HF antenna is down from the shed fire and am waiting to get some help putting the mast back up. Son will help with that. My UHF rigs are up and running...
