A few times. The last one was when I heard my chickens going crazy out back. I looked out the window and I see this yote hopping up and down looking for a way in the coup. I ran to bedroom to get my pistol and ran outside in my boxers with my pistol, it was already scurrying off about 50 yards away.

I was surprised how close he got to our house. The coup is maybe 15 yards from the back of our house.

Been all around Texas all my life. Coyotes seem to be getting braver all the time. Had one run up to my dog on a trail once. My dog was a rot cross. Killed him. Rabies check was negative so what the heck. Always carry. Had Rugby not killed him I would have. Point is you never know so always be ready. Just ask Rick Perry.
Takes a good dog to single handed kill a Coyote. Nice pup! Old perch pimp pal who lived on a ranch said the coyotes ate near all his dogs. He had one big Mama Shepherd who could fight one to a stand still..but. Coyotes usually have pals to help at which point the dog dies and gets ate. He say they really love to eat putty tats. Never heard of one being aggressive towards humans till recently.

Still have a scar on my thumb where one of those pesky critters nailed me age five. Killed two last summer in Cowtown.

Yep, lots of owls here in West U, just inside the West Loop.
    Partly my fault.

15 years back I built a few Screech Owl boxes for a neighbor, next thing I know I had built a couple of dozen for folks wanting them. There are four of them just on my block and there's a owlet in each one every year.

Worse than the urban chicken coop I made the mistake of letting someone see me build in the driveway. I've done about 20 so far in ten years ...

    Gunz are icky.
I live in town. Yote’s come right into town at night.
Have seen them in my driveway in the wee hours.
There are some feral cats I sure wish they take care of.

In most cities I am aware of shooting a BB gun on your property is legal. The stickler is the BB cannot leave your property. IE: target shooting into a trap is legal. It's written so a bullet has to be launched by compressed gas or a spring, no 22 shorts.

    Thanks.

Since I've been 3D modeling, and archiving all shop projects for years using Trimble SketchUP, I have quite a few models and cutlists of various custom sizes of those coops.

Not that difficult to .pdf a set of plans/drawings for someone really serious about DIY ... and no, I don't sell them, just happy to share an interest in the concept.

To be clear we were in the country on a trail I go on with my dogs often. The yote came straight at my dog. He had no pack with him. Thus the surprise about no rabies. He tore up Rugby a little but Rugby tore him up real bad. Then choked him out to death. Later on Rugby got to be too much for my in city back yard. Gave to a rancher friend. He made him into a hog dog. We shoot hogs out there and take ole' Rug. He has killed a couple hogs out there as well.

ASLO in answer to Coiled: Not in the habit of putting down dogs or yotes unless the situation calls for it. This one did. IN MY MUCH younger days used to kill them for bounty where I grew up. $2.00 per set of ears. Ranchers got tired of losing new calves and down momma cows. Had an old .257 Roberts that worked well for that.

You don't have to tell everything you know.
If you shoot a varmint and nobody asks, don't offer nothing.

That is why I have my Ruger SR 22 with silencer and sub sonic ammo. Have used it on a few possums, racoons, etc.

Most of the areas of DFW I ever heard about have city ordinances which prohibit the discharge of any device which expels a projectile through a barrel by any means inside the city limits.
