If you'll be at the reunion in April I will take you up on that. Thank you.

My understanding is that .44 special may not cycle the carbine properly so I was thinking a 44 Mag revolver so I could use the same cartridges in both. I need to look into that.
You'll find what works for you once you've got your hands on the carbine. I'm sure there are replacement recoil springs out there, just like for the Camp 9 and Camp 45 carbines.

I like the fact that .44Specials are subsonic, so if the 77/44 becomes integrally-suppressed, that'll be a perfect marriage.

My stock answer is "Which one fits your hand better".

Having owned all three I like the recoil handling shape and lines of the Smith N-Frames. I'd be the 629 for me.

Put me down for "other", as I like blued guns.
If you want to shoot a lot and carry a little there is something about the 6" M29 that the classic Dirty Hairy that I will always admire and own.

Consider another "other", Smith & Wesson if you want to shoot a little and carry a lot:
    The Model 329PD S&W!
Scandium frame titanium cylindered lightweight 4" N-Frame .44 mag.
Having shot a buddies on 3 outings now.
Not for the recoil sensitive shooter but with 44spl ammo it is just a joy.

That is a good point. If you reload, 44 mag gets much cheaper and you can experiment to see how light you can load them and still reliably cycle the carbine.

Another shameless plug for the Redhawk. I’m not sure if they still do or not, but Hornady Leverevolution in 44 Magnum used to say on the box, “For use only in Lever Action Rilfes and Ruger Redhawk Pistols”.

I've got a Marlin 1894S .44Mag and found an older New Model Super Blackhawk with a 7.5" barrel for sale cheap. The single action revolver just seemed like a perfect companion for the lever gun.

It’s pretty hot. I can’t stress enough with a 7 inch barrel, you don’t need hot loads to put something down

This thread has been a fun read. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts.

I think you all might have me convinced on the Redhawk. I'll think more about it.

The Super for sale is tempting but just not with what I'm looking for.

As an aside, it's a damn shame there isn't a decent gun shop in this area that doesn't stock all of these. I don't think I've seen a Redhawk offered for sale anywhere in Houston. Let alone a Super Blackhawk. Nobody wants to carry the inventory.

I see them in the used and new guns section at Cabelas.
Sometimes for really good prices in the used gun case.

I'm late to the party but here's my two cents

    Here's my 44MAG pair
    peB906N.jpg

I would get the redhawk or super redhawk (whichever you got a deal on) to pair with the semi carbine simply because I don't have the pair. I love 44MAG and take one of the two every time I go to the range.

A few post ago there some were talking about using 44 special in the carbine. I don't use special brass but load 44MAG brass down to special velocity for fun range plinkers. It keeps me from having to set different dies and sort different brass.

Me too. Makes shooting it a bit more easy on the wrist. But I always shoot some hotties while I'm there.

I just loaded another 150 easy on the wrist lead plinkers this morning. Of course I also made 50 really hot XTP loads while I was at it.
