It was good to meet you as well.
It's always nice to meet a fellow TGT'er, funny how we live so close.

I'd definitely like to make a trip out to Tomball with you, let me know when,I can usually free up some time to get the range.

Never heard of Tomball Gun Club.

I see they don't allow "rapid fire" lol.

EZ is a cool cat. Need to go shooting with him again soon.

EZ, does the range you were telling me about allow quick shots with rifles?

I was following an AUG thread and saw an IDPA type shoot with an AUG and that really appealed to me.

I think Shiloh has IDPA. There is something around conroe and another one down south.

It just seems so boring shooting steel at a slow pace, even at 200 yds.
A guy I shoot with used to shoot at Phil’s place but his wife’s health took a turn so he dropped his membership.
If I can get a really good job I’ll try and get approved for that place!

They have 2 second rule, as for caliber the largest they let you shoot is .223.

What makes them so special for bench rest? Is it the facilities, the people that shoot there or both?
    Both.

As for facilities, they are exactly what benchrest facilities should be. The benches are properly shaped and made of thick concrete. The range is graded flat so that it's easy to put out wind flags all the way from the muzzle to the target.

As for people, that's just where the great benchresters from this area have coalesced into a group. No other area club is so dedicated to that specialty so TGC is THE place. It certainly helps that many world-class greats reside within driving distance for a match. Seriously, it's surreal to go to a match there and realize you're within spitting distance of a dozen past or present world record holders/world champions/Hall of Famers at the same time.

If you appreciate formal benchrest shooting, that club is amazing.

Just about everybody else should skip it.

That puts their no rapid fire rule in better context.
Yes. It's a formal target shooting range meaning that rapid fire is never necessary or desirable. I note there's a tightly controlled exception for competition but that would have to be for some sort of competition I've never witnessed on that range.

We used to have an IDPA-style get together many years ago but it perished due to lack of interest(people willing to put it together except for one guy who got tired of doing all the work)! Sadly, I'm just getting an interest and skill for that type of sport.

The encroaching development has brought about changes and I long for the "old days" but it's still a damn fine venue to enjoy fresh air twenty minutes from my home!

Are you talking about the Tomball Gun Club? If you are, I notice that they still have a pistol match scheduled every month but I can't find any details. I saw one forum post that said it was some sort of unsanctioned match made up by the people who run it but even that had no details.

Do you know what sort of pistol competition they hold out there every month?

I figure I'll wind up just driving over there on a match day to see it for myself.

Yes sir I am. And what you propose is the way to do it.
It's my understanding that the gate is open on match days.

And, earlier on you posted that there are many nationally ranked shooters at our club and this is true as well but most of them shoot more at Bayou Rifle. One of my group of three(8a on Tues)is a member and has invited me down several times but he usually makes almost a day of it.
They still shoot golf balls at 200 at TGC.
