Sick or just old like me?
Both. He will be a little over 12. Shepherd years that’s up there, considering he started getting attacked by cancer a few years back. Started on his legs. A lot of money to remove a tumor. Finally I made peace with it. With how rabidly it went down hill in the last few days, I knew what it was.

Give him a kiss on the head for me. I had a cat live with me for 18 years before her kidneys gave out. That was a while ago and I still think about her every day, sometimes with a laugh, sometimes with a tear, but every day.

I know that feeling all to well. Ditto on the kiss on the head for me too. I got to go before I start to shedding tears.

It helps in my case some, but it's hard to let go. I've had other dogs and close friends that have passed on but it is not the same and I don't understand why it's different.
In many cases the lose of a pet can be harder than the lose of a relative. They are often closer and more faithful a friend than any human.

    Helotes!
"Just pets?" Like hell! Our dogs have always been close members of our family, and are more loyal and true than the vast majority of humans I know!

Sorry to hear about Bear, but he'll be waiting for you in heaven with his tail wagging!

A recent calendar cartoon from Non Sequitur shows the gates to heaven having a doggie door, and St. Peter explaining that "because they put up with people their entire life, that's why they get a free pass!"
