I do t know much of anything about a 10-22. My dad just called and said he got one with no mag. Are any aftermarket mags any good or should he just stick to Ruger?

I'd stick with Ruger. I tried one expensive aftermarket mag and it was a jamfest. I picked up a couple of factory 25 rounders on sale (about $30 for 2, if I recall) and they are flawless. Factory is the way to go, IMHO.

    Factory 10 definitely.

The Ruger 25s and 50s are okay but nothing great.

    .

I'm a big fan of the Ruger 15 round mags.

10 rounds are great but fitting flush with the stock can make them a touch tricky to extract.
25 round mags stick out too far and get in my way.

    Factory 15 round mags.
Easy to grab and insert/extract. Reliable as a good axe.
    Like in Goldilocks....not too big...not too small...just right...ahhhhhhh!

    You want cheap?
    The factory mags are cheap.
Four 15 round mags for $100 will serve you for a lifetime.

My Ruger Precision Rimfire came with a 15 round mag, and it's "ok" (much better than 25 rounders, as stated), but still don't like them as much as the 10's.

Even with the 15's, you still have to come up off the gun in some positions to get the mag out (for me, at least). With the 10's and an upgraded mag release, they drop free easily (right into the hand with a little practice), and a new mag can be loaded without running into potential clearance issues...

I concur. The BX-15 mags by Ruger are fantastic. They don't stick out like an AK banana and they're easier to work with than the 10-round mags. If I'm plinking, I want the 15. If I'm out squirrel hunting, then the 10 would be great.

After changing out my bolt with a Kidd bolt I hardly ever have any issues with the 10's or 25's. Haven't tried the 15's.

I have 2 of the 25's but only used them a couple of times. I like the clear Ruger 10 rounders, and have a few set up with tri-mag couplers. That works pretty well. Kidd stuff is top notch, I have a Kidd trigger on my LVT and have not had a chance to fire it yet, but dang it is smoooooth.

Shame the tandem mags look stupid.

they’re one piece? I thought they were two mags that could be stuck to each other, like the butler creek mags.

(edited to add) You’re right. I just read the description.
