I'm a Golden Eagle member and have been for about a decade. Obviously, I was a Life, Endowment, etc. for long before that.

I will retain my Golden Eagle status just so that the next time I see Wayne he'll be obligated to shake my hand and I'll get 5 seconds to talk to him.

I know some people will claim this question is based off people's opinions but the corruption can be corroborated by facts and statistics so there's really no question.

Wayne LaPierre has spent more on suits than I did on my house.

Marion Hammer is paid $300,000 per year to do......no one is really sure what she does for us, to us , well we all know what she has done to us.

Brewer’s Attorneys & Counselors being paid $97,000 a day by the NRA.

    And the list goes on
It's all in the suit man. Duh!

I’m a life member and had given when I could. My Father was on their sucker list. Whenever the NRA needed money they called him. He gave whatever they asked for. The two weeks before he died I heard him donate twice on the phone.

Now here’s what pisses me off; Dad’s income was $1700/month from SS. He had to pay taxes on that and live off of that. All of those NRA donations were just adding up on his Credit Card which he could not pay. I know this because I had to pay the $4000 off before his estate could be settled. And he had all kinds of NRA Champion/Warrior plaques for donations.

My point is, the NRA doesn’t care who they milk dry. They don’t really care about the members, just the money. Three years ago, when Dad died, that’s when I quit giving to them and giving to other pro gun groups.

My dad gave crazy money to his church before he died ($60K over 3 years), but it was his money. After seeing what the church charged for his funeral services. Then the fact both minister spoke & charged their rates on top of the church fee pissed me off. The fact is it was your fathers to give. If he was not of a right mind to make donations, then that goes on whoever had control of his finances.

My dads SS was less then $1700.00 per month. He said that was from the time he spent during WWII when nothing was going in to SS.

Poll #'s are about what Hoji and others (including me) thought it would be.......

The question is how long will WLP hold out? Will he do the right thing or bail after the ship is totally lost...............

I’m curious, two people voted that they felt the NRA was okie-dokie and that WLP,MH,CC and company are doing a bang up job.

    Will you explain why ?

    Will you explain why ?

I was one "no" vote and I will explain my reasoning [disclosure: I have been a NRA member for about 20 years]:

First, the poll is poorly framed (we can argue about bias separately, but speaking only of how it's worded).
It says "Is the NRA Corrupt a the Top...". That could mean that EVERYONE at the top is corrupt. Are they?
How far "down" do you mean to extend that to include "the top"? Anyone higher than a member?
Do we need to replace everyone in a upper position? Maybe we do. I don't know.
Bottom line, that would have been a good response to include. "I don't know. Need more info."
I have not taken the time to research much, only heard some mentions about misuse of funds and buying expensive suits. I have seen few links to any solid facts about what is really going on. I am not ready to make a call on the issue based on headlines.

Secondly, let me point out that a "no" vote doesn't mean that they are "okie dokie" and "doing a bang up job". I saw it as saying "NOT all corrupt at the top". Any organization of that size is going to have faults. And I think it is up to members to address the faults and get things fixed. I really hoped that there would be more discussions along those lines here, but it seems that for many it is a "take no prisoners" approach.

I also did resonate a bit with Flash, that we need to stand behind an organization that is seen as "pro-gun". I get really sick of pols that have great ideas for gun laws and they DO routinely attack the NRA. A lot of the public attacks the NRA, as well. I have found that most have no idea of what the organization is and does. Some of the opinions I have read sound like they think that the NRA is handing out "assault weapons" on street corners. There is a huge need for education for the general public. I think that the NRA has done a fair job of that.

Sorry, that got long winded. I started out thinking "I don't have a dog in this fight", but was watching the dialogue pretty closely. I do have opinions on it and it it can't be boiled down to "all good" or "all bad" for me.

PS - I thought the suggestion someone had to start a new topic area for this discussion was a good one. Let's do it.

    </end rant>
