Cheapest I've seen is $20. Some dude out of San Antonio does 'em, wanted to post if on one of my FB pages, and I refused to let him. There's just no way you're gonna get someone that GAF teaching a class for $20, IMO. I've seen way too many folks come in the shop after one of those "budget" classes that are poster children for anti-gunners.

I have done a lot of classes for free.
But the referrals they bring allow me to charge my regular price for private classes.

Classes and training, practice, practice, practice. All important. The LTC course however is nothing but a government edict, a hoop that must be jumped through. Dropping it to 4 hours is just the government admitting the whole thing is a sham. I think one should take the cheapest fastest way to jump this hoop. Then invest in some training. Weapon retention, Gun law, yes and shooting. The shooting is the fun part, take lots of those. Sucking coffee and talking gun law can also be fun as long as someone there knows the law. Attitude is important, but having a good time keeps you coming back. It can be a sort of TGT in person. Like before the Internet.

Texas Law Shield has offered some classes that I have gone to. First aid, legal when to shoot/not shoot, and this last one I really liked was at the Harley Davidson in Round Rock. There was a guy up from Houston I believe that had a projector set up for shoot/don't shoot situations. You could be put in situation and react as well as see where your shots went if fired. I really enjoyed seeing this in action. I can't go to Houston for this kind of training and wish something like that was offered here. Anyone know of something like this locally?

Yessir - different business model - this guy is churnin' them out at the $20/head class after class, and with little regard to the quality of his instruction.

Do you know where in Waxahachie? I already got my LTC years ago, but my wife is finally interested in getting hers. We live in Waxahachie.

It was a good class. Instructors made it fairly entertaining and still informative. Includes the range. They will supply a .22 pistol and ammo to use if needed at addition cost (like $5). You can also bring your own handgun and 50 rounds. They supply Target and provide drinks and snacks free of charge.

Quality of instruction and class size varies widely. Cheaper classes are usually larger and more impersonal. There's more to consider than just price, and don't begrudge an instructor for making a little profit after his or her time and expenses. Many instructors offer discounts for veterans, active duty, school employees, etc.

Agreed. My instructor wasn’t the best, but he was a former infantryman and offered it free to mil and vets. I can respect that. To be honest, it seemed like he was forced to drag on the class for a few hours more than it should have been because of requirements set by DPS. The entire class could have been done in 2 hours IMO.

I am an instructor. I cannot cover the material in 4 hours, I always take at least 5 and I don't tell war stories or allow students take me down rabbit holes.

I don’t know then because we were in class took 4-5 hours but half of that consisted of tangents that were just examples of personal experience that could have been skipped.

It all depends on your personal experience on what may seem redundant. Many often don't have much experience, so you need to have patience for them.
