I'd love a cane sword with a Microtech Jagdkommando style blade.
I had a Cold steel cane sword that was sweet but too long because I am short. Just bought a Ronin Ko Katana and it is awesome. I need a bamboo mat now to practice

Since I am British I would rather have an umbrella sword. With all the rain we have had recently you could walk around with one of those without attracting too much attention.

The only restriction is that if the blade is over 5 1/2 inches there are some places you can not enter. So 5.5 inches and under and carry on. At a VA facility, you still can't carry a gun or knife.

    • Schools and on any passenger transportation vehicle of a school
    • Polling Places
    • Courthouses
    • Airports past Security Screening (all knives are already prohibited by TSA)
    • Racetracks
    • Within 1,000 feet of the premises where an Execution is being conducted, if posted
    • Sporting Events (high school, collegiate or professional sporting event or interscholastic sporting event)
    • Correctional Facilities
    • Hospitals
    • Nursing Homes
    • Mental Hospitals
    • Amusement Parks
    • Churches, Synagogues and Established Places of Worship.

I was considering a cane sword as well. IIRC, the Cold Steel ones usually come 36 inches long but I have read were they can be cut several inches. The shaft is several inches longer than the blade. I need a cane sized at 33 1/2- 34 inches. If I can't cut it down, it would be almost worthless to me as a cane. And sometimes I need one. An inch too long or short is worse than worthless.
But yes, they are legal, just location restricted. Locations I hardly ever go to.

Just make sure you don't have to unscrew it for five minutes to get the sword out of the cane body. My dad (rest his soul) bought one out of a catalog years ago - damn thing would be useless even if it had a quality blade because you have to unscrew an inch of threading to expose the blade. I suppose that makes it dumbass-proof.

I agree. I would rather have the gun.
But more options are always more better.
