Dry fire helped a lot. I made both my ladies meetings on Tuesday and today and shot very well at both. I was happy to be so much more accurate. I'm really focusing on a deep exhale before firing, and I think I've went back to closing or at least squinting my right eye which seems to work for now. I got a lot of praise by everybody and it's fair to say I impressed my instructors.

Now to just keep it up and stabilize before increasing speed.

Rather than squinting or closing the right eye put a small piece of the semi-clear scotch tape on the right lense of your glasses. Position it so when looking at the sights it blocks the right eye. Works well.

I tried that, but stubborn me tilted my head back and tried to look under the glasses to cheat. I was not even aware I did this until I was shown that I did. I'll keep trying.

I went back to closing one eye. Also got the back sights changed out on my 34 today by my lovely instructor.

I’m loving the progress. I dunno if you can zoom in on the target...

God bless my AGAG facilitator. She is so helpful and observant.

I figured out why I did not do well and struggled at my match. She gave me tips and encouragement.

Best advice: be confident in what I CAN do and let muscle memory take over for things I know how to do (changing mags).

During the session, I had (even with making sure my grip and form was on point) two stove pipe and one double feed malfunctions, just like I did at a match Sunday. Husband and I had disagreed about the amount of oil to apply to the gun with the cold. I wanted more (which meant more than dry as a bone), he argued that more oil with the cold would equal jams.

As soon as a small amount of oil was applied to my pistols during the range time at the meeting yesterday, the jams stopped.

It seems that during the match Sunday (during which we shared the Glock 34), we surmised that my husband with his superior upper body strength could absorb the recoil better and prevent jams, but me, with my lesser upper body strength combined with the errors I made during the stress of the match (listed below) made me more susceptible to recurring malfunctions during the six stages I shot Sunday. It wasn’t ONLY my errors, because I corrected those errors in a relaxed setting during which I could take my time, and the jams continued until we oiled the firearm adequately.

My errors were: not extending arms out enough, grip not strong enough, grip not high enough on the firearm, frenzied mag changes (I also need to buy another mag pouch which should help so I don’t have to use pockets sometimes for a third mag). I also had the habit of making a separate hand slam of the mag into the firearm after insertion, which is unnecessary and wasted motion. All this I can improve.

I am VERY thankful for the help and encouragement.

We ordered my NRA marksmanship patches and certificate.

She sold me (50 cents) tap training aids which insert into magazines so I can dry fire repeatedly with magazines in and practice changing magazines easily while dry firing.

    :D

Yes. I’m impressed that we did that so well yesterday in our problem solving.
I feel much better than I did on Sunday after struggling.

    Went out again Tuesday.
I used lots of paper plates with dots where I could see where I was shooting each time. 9mm Glock 34 at 4 yards.
Right plates are one eye closed and left plates are both eyes open.
Happy. My friend finally came out and her little self was really sore after shooting. We gotta get her beefed up. She joined finally and sent in her membership dues.

An 'A Girl and A Gun' thread! Wonderful!

Wildcat Diva, are you the only one hanging here? I've joined the San Antonio chapter. Which chapter are you in?

We also have a ladies sub forum here that’s private, but no members seem to want to post in there.

I’m in the Brazoria AGAG chapter. That’s on the Gulf Coast east of Galveston.

It’s great to see someone else involved!

What is the closest chapter to Needville - Rosenberg? My wife is interested in finding out more.
I am not sure, maybe the Houston chapter? Take a look at this list.

Or, it may be the Brazoria Chapter. It actually may be us. Might be a bit of a drive once or twice a month if she can make it. Next meeting for us is on May 14th at 5:30.

She could go to our chapter without being a member., cost to shoot is range fee of $10 non AGAG members, $5 for league members.

I went to my first meeting in a month. I was amazed at how much I felt the concussion of the 9mm in the woman shooting next to me. Maybe one month off will do that to ya? Had to tell myself “buck up.”

Anyways, did some good shooting, as usual close up, but faster than usual. Yay!

New woman next to me looks at my target and says, “oh I can see you’ve shot some before huh?”

    I replied “ Lil bit.”
