I just picked a barely used 597 from Blackjack today. I didn't take any pics because it looks exactly like the scope only version on the Remington site. Synthetic stock sort of grey with a cheap 3x9 scope. The scope will end up going I think. It really is cheap. I have a few in my gun room not in use so I might pick one of them or Academy has a nice sale going on.

The price during his April sale was finally down to what I thought a used gun like this would go for. It came with one factory 10 round mag but I just ordered 3 ten round Keepshooting.com mags which the YouTube reviews showed as pretty good. Buying 3 at a time got the price down to $13 each with $5 shipping.

It'll be a while before it gets to the range as my wife has some minor surgery coming up that will require me to be house bound for 2 or 3 weeks for her initial recovery.

If you've have experience with the 30 round mags let me know. I'm not looking to get any right now. I have plenty for my Ruger 10/22 that work just fine. But you never know when opportunity knocks as they say.

    Thanks

I had one. It was a great shooter but ran out of safe space. The 10 round mags worked great. The 30 round mags, not so much. I took them apart, ran them dry - fail, dry lube - fail.

That explains why I was able to get a couple for $6 at the great Academy clearance sale.

I gave my 30 rounders away on the pay it forward thread years ago. Can't remember who got them. Maybe they'll chime in.

I haven't had any problems with the 30-rounders, bought them before they were known as Remington mags

Let us know how you like it, if you please. I've always found those a bit intriguing. I don't need another .22 and I'll never buy one of them but I'm interested to know if they're recommendable. My impression of them is pretty positive but I'm always interested in more data, for or against.

Bought my son one a decade ago. He learned to shoot rifle on that one. It's not as well built as the 10-22, but equal or better than its Mossberg and Marlin counterpart.

Had little to no issues with feeding. Magazines could be quirky at times. Pretty accurate.

It's a light weight gun with a plastic stock I didn't care for. But it was a great first rifle for a kid. My son really liked it, and still shoots it.

The problem with the remington 30 rndrs is the bolt catch for me. Theyre too thin to actually work. You can bend it a tad and get it to catch the bolt. I never had feeding issues with them.
