It would’ve taken them a week back then without our help.

The British mainland would have been fairly tough if for no reason other than geographical obstacles. The Germans weren’t good at beach landings and crossing the channel would have been extremely difficult. Hitler first opted to persuade the British to join him in order to avoid such an attempt. Plans had been made for just such an attack but were never implemented due to the difficulty of such an attack and likelihood of failure. Add in that the British radar network would have made getting paratroopers in behind the lines nearly suicidal and you have a recipe for disaster.

Now, if by help you mean the US selling supplies to the British then it’s true they wouldn’t have held out. But it would have taken much longer than a week to starve the nation in to submission ad would have been pretty bad for our economy as well.

Important to keep in mind that even when it came to lend/lease a lot of the equipment we sent them was vastly improved after they received it. The P-51 for example was kind of ok until they put a Merlin engine in it and made it great. Prior to that we had other aircraft that probably would be considered superior. Of course it’s my opinion that even though the Mustang was a great plane it’s a little over rated. In fact, in the 2nd to last recorded dogfight between two propellor driven aircraft 2 Corsairs shot down 2 Mustangs. Later that day the last took place with Corsair facing Corsair.
