It's true, I enjoy reloading and working on the guns more than I enjoy shooting them. When I was shooting in the garbage dumps in SE Kansas, it was a gigantic "box of truth" experience. That was the most fun I've ever had with firearms. Busting rats was fun, too. Punching paper targets gets tiresome for me.

My neighbor and used to have a blast slaying night time rats off their overhead power line super highway with our bb and pellet guns at Corpus. Much more fun than freezing in a deer stand

I'm the same way. One thing I wish the club I belong to had was some steel rifle targets. I spend most of my time shooting skeet, pistol shooting on the plate rack and plinking on the .22 range because reactive targets are a lot more enjoyable to me.

My only “hunting” experience is bird hunting but I do remember my first and only rat. He was running around on a big pile of wood/debris surrounded by water and I was about 30 feet away and 12-15 feet higher than he was.
One shot from my MAADI and he did two flips and landed on his back all spread eagled.

I enjoy my club’s steel at 200 but I’d like have access to steel for pistols. I see a lot of videos of it and it seems safe enough although I’ll admit I had a ricochet from a refrigerator put a knuckle dent in my truck door.

Here's another fantastic fun time with firearms! Place clay pigeons on the 200 yard berm. In our case, it's 208 yards. This works when the berm is dry and dusty.

3-4 of us would bring our .22 rifles. We'd get a 100 yard zero and use Kentucky windage and elevation at 200. One shooter would lead off and shoot at a clay bird. The rest of us would see the puff of dust, aim at his bird and see who could bust the bird first. As the day wears on, we'd aim at clay pieces which got smaller and more challenging.

The best plan was to fire a round and correct for the wind. Once the round came close..... fire for effect! When the wind shifts, lob your rounds in again and fire for effect.

Laughter and good times were guaranteed!

Sidebar…… You will be amazed at how much variation there is in .22LR ammunition at 200 yards! Some brands of bulk .22 ammo are absolutely ridiculous round to round!
