Why the technology of SA semi auto pistols such as 1911s and it’s varous clones haven’t joined flintlocks in the Scrap heap of gun history..in the once good idea category who’s time has passed?

Yep. My Daddy had one back in the Big War. He tells a funny story of being stuck in a remote Guard shack in England. As an MP He had cases of ammo and spent weeks trying to hit a beer bottle sitting on a fence about 50 yards off without success. This limey peddles up on his bicycle and they start chatting. Well the Limey asked him if he was any good with his pistol? Daddy says he said heck yes...whipped out the gun and nailed the bottle better than Wild Bill Hickock coulda done it. He said the Limey was astounded at his skill and pedaled off saying “you Yanks are crazy!”
