You may want other's opinion but a course/instructor is not needed to get a CCW.

Obtaining a LTC is a different matter. :)

Probably because Sec. 411.172 (a)(1) states as much.
You should read further. The very same sentence in fact.

    411.172. ELIGIBILITY.

    (a) A person is eligible for a license to carry a handgun if the person:

    (1) is a legal resident of this state for the six-month period preceding the date of application under this subchapter or is otherwise eligible for a license under Section 411.173(a);

    Sec. 411.173. NONRESIDENT LICENSE.

    (a) The department by rule shall establish a procedure for a person who meets the eligibility requirements of this subchapter other than the residency requirement established by Section 411.172(a)(1) to obtain a license under this subchapter if the person is a legal resident of another state or if the person relocates to this state with the intent to establish residency in this state. The procedure must include payment of a fee in an amount sufficient to recover the average cost to the department of obtaining a criminal history record check and investigation on a nonresident applicant. A license issued in accordance with the procedure established under this subsection:

You have to be a Texas resident for 6 moths before you can apply.
I’ll ask again. Why would you tell someone this?

Sorry if I seem “confrontational” but the OP asked a question and , at least on a gun forum, deserves to be answered with facts, not “what I heard someone tell my brother in law’s cousin’s sister”.

There are quite a few members here who are LTC instructors( me included) who really get tired of the misinformation.

Please refrain from spreading it and leave questions on the GC to folks who practice disseminating the actual facts of what it says.( or other folks who have actually read it in its entirety )

Haji, damn I forgot you are one of the resident experts on everything. BEFORE, there was a waiting period applying. "my brother in law’s cousin’s sister” did not tell me this, it was on the DPS site. You may be new to being an "instructor' ,but I have had my license since 1996, taking the class the first weekend offered.
    Good bye.

Hasn’t been the case in over 20 years.

If you are not aware of what the most current laws are, maybe you should rethink carrying until you take another class.

What was your screename before you came back as 1911’S 4 Me?

Someone who has only been a member 4 months should not have as much insight.

Also, there was someone else who routinely called me Haji.

I think I know who you may be.

Hoji’s right; posts documentation he’s right, and still someone wants to respond like an ass. Yeah, I’m shocked.

This is the only screen name I have ever used on this site and the only time I have registered on it. So, you have me confused with someone else.
My INSIGHT comes from all the post you make.

Didn't you violate the rules by copy and pasting?
