I assume there's no charge to renew one's DL 2 years earlier than necessary?

What makes me doubt my own question?

This 'request' is so transparent it's ghostly.......

Hmm. I got the notification, but I got mine renewed last year, it has the star, and doesn't expire until 2024.

I was driving for a few years on my Oregon license, so since I got it in 2017 and it expires in 2021, I assumed.

Mine Issued July 2018 expires August 2024, w/star.
Was pretty sure the last one issued in 2012 was for six years, but maybe not.

My renewal is coming up in August. I'm really hoping I can do it on line again, like the last two times. Since I'm old now, they will probably make me do it in person and take the eye test again.

Yep, you will have to go in. Mine expired, from 2012, this past August 2018.

In the interim was issued a new license to have the “with lens” restrictions removed in 2016 after cataract surgery, and had to take the eye test, but the Aug 2018 expiration remained the same on the newly issued license

Then had to go in again to take the eye test to renew in 2018 even though I’d just taken it 18 months earlier ... and new photo.

The last time I renewed they made me take the eye test. It really scared me. Typical DPS set up, counter full of stations and only 3 people working. Kind of like the check out lines at the grocery store.

I looked into the view finder and everything was blurry. Even the biggest line at the top. I pulled my head back, blinked hard a few times and tried again. It was just as bad if not worse. The lady said read the best line you can.

I pulled up again and told her something was wrong. It was all blurry and I knew my eyesight wasn't that bad. She said just do the best you can, so I did.

She said close enough and approved it. When I asked, she said everyone had been complaining about the machine all day. I really wanted to ask why she didn't move over one station and use a different machine, but she still was entering info and had the power to reject my DL, so I kept my mouth shut. Older might mean an eye test, but it also means you should be smart enough to know when to keep your mouth shut.

I got my DL, have a star, and have the veteran designation too.
