... I told the wife I had everything I needed. Hmmm.... white lie?
Trust this.I'd compare the .458 Socom recoil with that of a 12 gauge field load. I do NOT like recoil, but it was not excessive.
I load only 300 grain bullets designed for the 45-70 for my own rifles, but I've fired other rifles in .458 Socom from SBR and suppressed form owned by my friends. It's pretty impressive and the hunters around here have dropped hogs and deer. They drop like sacks of rocks!
A non scientific comparison puts the .458 Socom 300 grain and 45-70 300 grain real close in performance.

Trust this.
Nope. I've shot it off the bench. It's a Son of a B-itch. Folks can say it's not that much all day long.
It'll put you back. Lean into a 12ga on some bags. Get in good and slowly squeeze.
I agree it's more of a short to mid range round...I used to be interested, but the hard bullet drop turned me off. If it could reach out like a .308 I could find some merit in it.
I have only shot a handful of rounds, its a thumper and expensive. But if you want to drop a hog its got to be up there with the best options.
I appreciate the knowledge and experience with this guys. TBD...
