I wear glasses anyway so I only get safety glasses to have extras for others. When I get new glasses I get polycarbonate safety lenses with the flex frames. They cost more but are optically correct. You can get lenses that are optically neutral if you don't need glasses. That being said, there are times that they make looking through an optic a pain in the ass. And they have to be kept clean.

I paid full price for a set of Oakley's over five years ago and I won't look back. Polarized, super sharp clarity and worth every penny IMO. I wear them for everything including shooting so I have more than gotten my money's worth out of them. My lenses are due to be replaced in a frame that isn't made any more (Fast Jackets) so I need to decide if I'm going to go with after market lenses or buy a new set of frames.

I got these recently and really like them, especially when using a scope.

I wore them all day yesterday and I didn't have to give it any thought. Very clear.
    Thank you.
You're the 1st response that actually mentioned using the eye protection and looking through a scope.
    Well, Dawico kinda inferred that.

I just want glasses for protection without jacking up my view through a scope.
ANSI, milspec, blah blah. I don't care about government or agency ratings.
I want a clear view through multiple scopes on multiple rifles.

I'm interested in this too - I've just used whatever cheapo certified safety glasses I had - my other issue is the effect on ear-pro sealing. I was wearing muffs at the range yesterday (usually wear plugs but it was so cold, I appreciated the extra warmth) and the temples of the glasses really jack up the sealing around my ears. There must be some glasses with really thin temples.

Have the same problem sometimes. I either just use in ear, or double up.

guess that's just a bandaid though.

You need glasses that do not cause any aberration

Look for some high quality offerings from Smith Optics, Oakley and other similar optics companies.

Be sure any lenses are Z87.1 approved for impact resistance

Quality lenses will be fog free, and have UV protection, even in clear.

If you go to an optics center, they can fit safety polycarbonate lenses into any frames you are comfortable with.

That's what I've been looking for too and I think these are the ones for me. The price isn't too crazy either.

I tried some Beretta ones before these and didn't care for the ear pieces.

The ratings signify how well they handle impacts, thats the most important thing about them. What good are safety glasses for shooting that won’t protect your eyes from an accident? Maybe this will drive home the importance of ratings: https://www.opticsplanet.com/wiley-x-goggles-reviews.html

Maybe this will drive home the importance of ratings:...
It does. If I'm going to be near a blast, I want a great rating.

Shooting, however, is different. There are more co-equal criteria that must be met. Ratings are important in case something goes horribly wrong. Coverage is important in case I'm shooting my really gassy Norinco. And optical clarity is mandatory.

I think Vaq is pointing out something I've noticed plenty of times: one of the ways to make a highly impact resistant lens is to sacrifice clarity.

I know just enough about shooting glasses to find a pair that meets my requirements. Unfortunately, the company that made them is out of business.

I sincerely hope that the greater experience demonstrated by some of the participants in this thread will lead to glasses that are both tough and clear. For precision shooting, it's just not acceptable to sacrifice one for the other.

Vaquero, if you find that combination of virtues, please share. We could all use the knowledge.

I wear mine for everything, including shooting, and have never had a problem looking through a scope as long as they’re clean and it’s not dark. I have some yellow lenses in my range bag for when it gets too dark for tinted lenses.

I don't like that my glasses are tinted on overcast days.

If I were getting dedicated glasses I'd look for the option of swapping lenses based on conditions.
